Information Evening – Wildlife corridors

16/05/2016

Guest Speaker: Diane Warman

Diane completed her PDC with One Passionfruit Project, in 2015. She is also a passionate plant ecologist with First Class Honours for her study on Grevillea shiressii . She is also a Land for Wildlife property owner. When she’s not working to develop her own self-sustaining lifestyle, she’s working for the Community Environment Network (CEN) on the COSS Connection & Rehabilitation Project which aims to support landholders in managing some of their land for wildlife The project is engaging landholders in wildlife awareness and conservation activities and providing advice and other resources to help landholders manage their native plants and animals.

Land for WildlifeDiane urges us not to ignore the Zone 5 bushland on our property. “You can join Land for Wildlife, and we can help you connect with a network of like-minded people caring for native wildlife”, says Diane. “Gosford Council’s Coastal Open Space System (COSS) reserves, like Kincumba Mountain and Katandra Reserve are home to a myriad of cryptic animals rarely seen in urban areas, but sadly many won’t survive increased urban development of the Central Coast unless there are bush pathways to allow foraging, movement and expansion of their own populations between reserves. Landholders adjacent to these reserves can help by retaining some of their land for wildlife, even connecting with neighbours to ensure a corridor of land retains its connectivity”.

This project has been assisted by the New South Wales Government through its Environmental Trust and is supported by Gosford City Council, Greater Sydney Local Land Services, National Parks and Wildlife Service and Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council.
