About me

I’m a lifetime resident of the Central Coast.
A chef by trade, I’ve worked in and owned restaurants, cafes and catering companies locally, in the Hunter Valley and in Sydney. I’ve also been a private chef to a family in Greece in the mid 2000’s. I’ve also studied and worked in the wine making industry.

I was brought up living at my grandmothers home in East Gosford where she had a large house block with a long chicken coup, a fruit tree grove, a series of vegetable patches and an old double concrete tub filled with herbs…pretty standard for a small town, 1960’s upbringing.
My mum and gran were big on chutney, jam, jelly, curd and even soap making. Something was always stewing or bubbling away in her tiny kitchen, then being stacked away in the bottom of the linen press.
She passed much of this pantry practice down to me, as well as a lot of her actual kitchenalia which I still use today.

A couple of years ago my dear friend Kerrie Anderson introduced me to Mel Cooper from Sustainable Education.
Mel has become a good friend and through ‘Sus Ed’ I’ve been able to introduce a great many people from all over the greater Sydney region and now the Central Coast to the joy of preserving.
The Sandy Pantry came about as answer to all those workshop participants who asked to keep contact and share and exchange recipes. It has been a great success on Facebook and Instagram.

About the workshops

I facilitate mainly 3 hour workshops during which time I support participants to create at least two types of preserve, such as a chutney, jam, ferment or salt cure.
We discuss the history of preserving food, the methods and mediums used in preserving food, what equipment is required to preserve food and the basic principles of pantry keeping.


Tuesday, 18th April 2017, 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start


Tuggerah Hall, Anzac Road, Tuggerah, directly opposite Hungry Jacks – within easy walking distance of Tuggerah Railway Station.

Parking is  across the road in the council carpark next to Hungry Jacks . Please do not park in the Pizza Inn carpark on the left hand side .
